Clinical Record Review & Scoring Workshop (3 Days)

Clinical Record Review

(21 Contact Hours)

This course provides comprehensive, practical training in polysomnogram scoring and interpretation. Participants will have a chance to examine a wide variety of clinical record samples, representing a broad spectrum of normal and abnormal sleep physiology. High emphasis is placed on developing rapid visual pattern recognition skills, and using clinical judgment to interpret events that do not always fit existing scoring criteria.

This course is especially intended for physicians who wish to enhance their interpretation skills, but is also well-suited for sleep technologists and respiratory therapists who are involved in the scoring process.

Topics presented and discussed include:

  • Overview of sleep recording methodology
  • Review of sleep stage and arousal scoring
  • Scoring and interpreting the abnormal polysomnogram
  • Diagnostic aspects of sleep disordered breathing
  • Sleep disorders associated with COPD and neuromuscular disease
  • Analysis of CPAP and bi-level pressure titration recordings
  • Movement disorders, atypical EEG, drug effects on sleep and parasomnias
  • Polysomnogram recording artifacts
  • Scoring and interpretation of the Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT)
  • Report formulation
  • CPAP compliance data interpretation
