Course Objective:

To provide a comprehensive overview of positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy in treating various forms of sleep disordered breathing. This course is intended for physicians, nurse practitioners, sleep technologists, respiratory therapists DME providers, and laboratory managers.

Diagnostic Aspects of Sleep Disordered Breathing

  • Obstructive sleep disordered breathing
  • Sleep related hypoventilation
  • Sleep disordered breathing associated with COPD
  • Sleep disordered breathing associated with neuromuscular disease
  • Central sleep apnea
  • Cheyne-Stokes respiration
  • Drug effects on respiration
  • CPAP induced and CPAP emergent sleep apnea
  • Transient and benign respiratory phenomena during sleep
  • Overview of respiratory transducers
  • Recording artifacts

 

Clinical Record Review

  • Normal variants of NREM and REM sleep physiology
  • Current scoring criteria for identifying sleep related respiratory events
  • Interpreting respiratory patterns that do not fit current scoring criteria
